Improving the environment, one step at a time

We actively look to develop projects that deploy innovative approaches for value addition to the Agri-produce and Agri-residue – this while adding extra income for the Farmers and benefits for the Environment.

Maddoke Pilot Project

We are in the process of setting up a 25TPD green fodder production unit in the village of Maddoke, district Moga, Punjab. The plant will process green foliage crops such as berseem, sorghum, and alfalfa to produce a variety of animal feed products such as hays, silage & total mixed ration (TMR). On successful completion of the pilot, we plan to scale up significantly over the course of 2022. Farmers stand to benefit as they will be able to offload their produce locally instead of traveling to the nearest town, resulting in significant cost savings. Furthermore, they can now grow higher-value crops such as maize and sorghum without worrying about the offtake.

Fast Growing Feed Market

India currently represents one of the fastest growing animal feed markets in the world. This because of the increasing demand for animal protein and dairy products. Stagnant livestock population and the inferior quality of animal feed have further contributed to the demand supply gap. Our pilot project is a small step to enhance the availability and quality of the Animal Fodder.

Critical Input for Livestock Nutrition

Quality green fodder is critical for livestock as it provides nutrients that ultimately have a bearing on livestock output and the sector itself. However, the seasonal production and its uneven distribution throughout the country affects both - the timely availability and the quality of Fodder. This project addresses both these issues by enabling year around availability of good quality Fodder.

Suitable Growing Conditions

A combination of soil types, climatic conditions, and many forage species suited to different agro-ecological conditions and input situations can enable intensive forage production in India. The limitations on productivity arise out of seasonal availability of the green and the regional disparity in its availability. While the Indo-Gangetic planes in the northern India produce abundant green fodder during the months of January and February, rest of the country which is dependent on the monsoons is almost starved throughout the year. Even in the northern India the abundant availability in the months of January and February causes glut in the market with the result that farmers cannot get the worth of their produce. The proposed project will make ensure to collect the green fodder available in the January February which will be dried to a much lower moisture level and nutrients will be added. This will increase the shelf of the fodder and ensure near uniform availability throughout the country throughout the year.

Integral Component of Agriculture Sector

Livestock has been an integral component of India’s agricultural and rural economy, providing employment to millions. In the event of crop failure, livestock has proven to be the only cash income for subsistence farmers. The gels well with the Government’s objective of doubling the Farmer Income.
